Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie (e.g. Dumbledore's Army here) and someone in GreatestJournal proposed a horrible thought!So... they've released some promotional pictures for the upcoming |
What if Cho is going to be the snitch? and she rats out the DA?????
That would totally kill her character. *weeps!* (It was just a thought... a possibility since the confirmed cast listing doesn't have Marietta listed... and we know how movies cut/chop books up, eliminating certain characters and merging others to tighten the storyline and make it not-as-complicated and drawn-out as the original novel...) That would definitely kill Harry's interest in her.
Of course the promo pic may not feature the DA in its entirety, and Marietta might be such a small part that she's not listed in the "main cast" (and will only be given a small credit line in the end of the movie), but still... to make betrayal HURT more, the betrayer would have to be more prominent (right?) . Unless they are cutting/skipping the entire "snitch" plot, bringing all of the DA to the fight at the ministry, and more students would be injured - possibly Cho - who then breaks up with Harry because she can't deal with the "danger" -- but then that screws up the story even more. *sigh*
I never thought of ANYTHING along the lines of this and it makes my throat close in horror just thinking about it. Steve Kloves (? I could care less about his name, he butchers most of the movies anyway) is going down if he does this. Way down.
But I'm not sure if they'd make Katie Leung do that. My bet right now is that they'll skip over the whole Snitch plotline.
I hope they just skip it if indeed Marietta doesn't exist! But then I wonder how Cho and Harry fall apart by the end, if she's not around in Movie #6...
Hmm, that's true too. I guess they won't really have a choice but to make Cho look less than desirable in the movie, seeing as the books do a rather good job of it too. I just really hope they don't make Cho of the Snitch!plot, or I will literally chuck something at the movie screen and throw a fit in the theatre.
Maybe Harry will just spurn her when she bursts out sobbing at Hogsmeade, as stupid as it sounds...
Well, I HOPE that since they didn't show the importance of the second task in GoF, that maybe they won't have Cho sobbing all over the place (since the audience who never read the book won't understand why she would be crying). And for some reason, when Luna was cast, they said she was "Harry Potter's next love interest"????? which made no sense...
Maybe Harry/Cho's relationship won't be like it was in the book (with her crying and asking about Cedric). Maybe it'll be an ordinary relationship with an ordinary falling-apart? :P
I think that they have a different screen writer for this movie, actually.
The definitely don't have the whole DA, you're also missing characters like Hannah Abbot.
I agree that that would be a horrid switch and I can see how they would justify it--as the discussion between Harry and Cho about that incident is what finally breaks their relationship completely.
Btw, what are your thoughts on Harry/Cho in canon?
I really doubt they'll bring the whole DA to the Ministry--it would be too hard to do.
Plus, breaking up because of the "danger" is already Ginny's plotline.
I was never really a Harry/Cho shipper, or actually gave much of their relationship any thought. (Back then, when I read it, I didn't think much about Cedric and Cho as characters either, until I saw the Cho hate which made me sympathize with her.) If anything, I liked Harry/Luna's interaction because he could talk to Luna and be himself and not be insecure or worried about her reaction as he was with Cho. So... canon-wise, they had too many obstacles against them, they were too young and green and had too much emotional baggage already to even attempt a relationship (him being the witness to her boyfriend's death).
Yeah... I thought so too (to both the DA/Ministry and danger/plot/Ginny)... so I'm curious how they will even act. So far, we know there is the "kiss" as it was pretty publicized (as 'ooo... Harry's first kiss') but other than that, I just hope they don't butcher her character further....
I thought the Harry/Cho relationship was frustrating to read and I couldn't wait until they broke up. Like you said, way too much emotional baggage. And Harry merely wanted an "easy" relationship--nothing that required work...but he really didn't have anything to draw on for what a "healthy" relationship should be.
However, I wish that she hadn't completely dropped off the map in HBP...
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I guess I'm more of a fan of "friends first" before getting into a relationship (maybe that's why I lean towards Harry/Hermione more than Ron/Hermione -- sorry sevarem
! this is not to say I'm against Ron/Hermione or Harry/Ginny, just that I like 'friends first' more than 'love/hate' relationships). So, I wish JKR would have written it differently, but it is understandable for a first crush - thinking that Cho's perfect when she's not - and wishing everything would be perfect when they can't be.
The banter/bicker can work, with Darsy/Elizabeth, Han/Leia and even James/Lily.
Of course, I like comparing H/Hr to Emma.
Of course, many people also forget that we see everything from Harry's limited perspective, so characters are maybe not as simple as they appear.
I really, really hope they don't do that. It would hange the dynamics of so many relationships...
I have to say i'm really worried about Ootp anyway, because its SO complex. There are so many moments and things that i REALLY don't want to loose or be changed, but i don't think its possible for them to all be in the movie...
