I went to do some of my pre-employment health screening today... which is just another thing I dislike about changing jobs (although I guess it goes with working in a hospital-setting, right?)
Got poked twice. Once for TB test (tuberculosis; they always test to see if you've been exposed); and once for blood (they need to make sure I have my antibodies - mainly against Hepatitis B - not that I myself work with blood products - ech! - but it's a 'just in case you're exposed to it, we want to make sure you're covered' thing)!
So... my gripe? Why can't organizations be more organized? I think the word 'organization' is an oxymoron... because organizations are hardly ever organized. Their left hand doesn't talk to their right hand (or is that left brain doesn't talk to their right brain?); and so much time and energy is wasted when they could have been structured better.

Last week, Employee Health Services called to schedule an appointment. I was like, "Huh?", because the supervisor hadn't called me to offer the job/position yet! So... I thought... okay, I must have gotten it (right?) or why else would EHS call? I tell the guy that Fridays are my days off, so I schedule the appointment for today; and he tells me to go to Human Resources to pick up paperwork before Friday. So, I go on Monday to pick up the paperwork (waste 30 minutes trying to find the place) and today, I went to EHS. Now, the girl tells me I need a second appointment (a physical), and so I schedule it for this coming Friday (10/20). GAH!
If it were me... and I say this because I like to be organized (am I a dictator? hmm...) I would have explained the process to the new hire, and told them how much time was required, etc. Because this is how it went:
10/6/06 (Friday): EHS calls; says appt will take 1.5 hrs; make appt.
10/7/06 (Saturday): Supervisor calls; I'm not home because it's Saturday, yet she does not tell me in her message that I have been offered the job nor she emails me.
10/9/06 (Monday): She calls me again and lets me know (which I think she should have told me on Friday before EHS called), which stresses me slightly because they'd like me to start 10/23/06 and that's cutting the "two week notice" short. I also go to HR to pick up my paperwork.
10/10/06 (Tuesday): I give notice.
10/13/06 (Friday): I go to EHS; they say I must get my TB test done and blood drawn (which I did) and I need to make a second appt (which I did too). Takes about an hour.
10/16/06 (Monday): Have to go to get my TB test read.
10/20/06 (Friday): 2nd appt. with EHS
GAH! Had I known all of this cr*p would have occured, I would have scheduled it like this:
10/10/06: EHS appointment and TB test.
10/12/06: TB test read.
10/17/06: 2nd EHS appointment.
Now isn't that all nice and dandy especially when I need to go to a three-day orientation on 10/23/06? ((and speaking of which, my new supervisor still hasn't told me WHERE to go for that! I guess I'll call her next week, but I need to know if I'm driving to another facility for the orientation.))
